Summer timetables which will start on July 26 were announced today by Reading Buses.
The bus operator explained that as people take time off work for holidays summer sees fewer customers catching a bus.
The company generally do some temporary reductions to their frequent services to reflect the lower customer numbers during summer, but also take the opportunity to look at other routes on the network.
Said Robert Williams, Chief Executive Officer of Reading Buses: “Every year during summer we make some changes to services – some temporary, some permanent -and this year is no different.
“We have made some minor daytime tweaks on emerald 5 and emerald 6 for the summer reduction in customers, although we know that most people will see no difference.
“There’s an amended Monday to Friday timetable on orange 13 and 14. The amendments include a slightly reduced frequency in morning peak.
“The Friday and Saturday late night journeys are reinstated to reflect the restrictions being removed on night time socialising.
“Sky blue 15 sees the frequency between Tilehurst and Reading becomes every 20 minutes and IKEA to Tilehurst hourly.”
Robert continued: “There are also some minor tweaks during the day for summer reduction in customers of purple 17, although like emerald 5 & 6, most people will see no difference. Friday and Saturday late night journeys are reinstated like orange 13.
“Yellow 26 has a new timetable with slightly reduced morning peak frequency – although, again, this shouldn’t be noticed by many people.
“We are also delighted to introduce the summer Green Line 701 service running between Windsor, Legoland and London. There are also a couple of minor changes to the first and last buses of the day on Green Line 702. These changes start on Saturday July 24 for Green Line only.
“There are no changes to Green Line 703.”
Robert was also keen to point out that the Reading Buses group ticket was being slashed for summer with the simplyReading ticket becoming £6 from Saturday July 17 and the simplyNetwork group ticket just £10.”
He added: “We really hope that we can start to encourage more people back on the buses over summer.
“We have some suggestions of great places for people to go by bus coming on social media over the next few weeks so these should inspire everyone who is staying around the local area for their holidays.”
