Transport technology provider UrbanThings and transit payments processing specialist Littlepay, announce today the roll out of mobile payments on the Newport Bus and Ipswich Buses apps using Littlepay’s technologies.
Transport operators are now able to offer Card Not Present (CNP) mobile payments in their passenger apps, using Littlepay as their Payment Service Provider (PSP).
In the age of contactless payments, bus operators are making significant progress to grant the benefits of the physical pass to passengers using contactless. While many developments have been introduced with daily caps, flexible fares and multi-operator capping, riders can not easily track the perks received.
The new mobile payments experience enables passengers to link their bank card to their account in-app. This feature gives riders the flexibility to pay for their trip using contactless when boarding the bus or via the app before they travel, while having complete visibility over their travel history and quick access to support for their journeys.
Partnership bringing innovation
After identifying the need for a solution that gives riders a clear view of their travel history and contactless benefits, UrbanThings and Littlepay have collaborated to develop this functionality.
The partnership has already seen the two companies working together to enable users to view their contactless payment history and capping in the app. By deepening their work together, UrbanThings and Littlepay will continue to bring additional features to passenger apps, providing enhanced customer experience, motivating increased use of public transport and eventually, helping reduce carbon emissions.
The mobile payment integration has already been launched on the Newport Bus and Ipswich Buses mobile apps, with further customers launching soon. UrbanThings and Littlepay will continue to evolve their partnership to give out customers continuous improvement and innovations.
Simon Franklin, Senior Product Manager at UrbanThings commented: “We’re excited to continue working in partnership with Littlepay. We share the same goals to improve public transport by providing innovative technology solutions, creating a seamless and user-friendly travel experience. The deployment of this mobile payment integration will help operators achieve long-term benefits, unlock industry specific improvements and ultimately continue delighting customers who are encouraged to use shared transport more frequently.”
Sarah McLaughlin, Business Development Manager at Littlepay said: “It’s been a delight to work with UrbanThings on the launch of these initial projects. Our partnership is bringing the latest ridership innovation to contactless EMV fare collection, enabling operators and agencies to unlock true passenger value. It’s been a pleasure to work with a like-minded team that shares the same desire to exceed expectations. We are looking forward to expanding this development to multiple other cities around the UK.”
