Popular Reading Buses Charity Open Day is 25th June

May 9, 2023

It is widely regarded as one of the best events of its kind for miles around…

The date has been announced for the Reading Buses charity Open Day 2023 – Sunday June 25.

Also known fondly as the ‘Family Fun Day’, the Reading Buses Open Day takes place at their Great Knollys Street depot in Reading town centre.

The Open Day will raise money for the company’s Charity of the Year, the Royal Berks Charity and, as always, the event will be free to attend.

It promises to be a great day out for everyone, families and individuals, with highlights including fabulous behind the scenes tours of the workshop and control room, rides through the bus wash and open top bus tours of the town.

The day also will boast games, stalls and activities as well as great food, including a barbecue and Indian food stall, together with Reading Buses branded merchandise to buy.

Said Robert Williams, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer: “I am thrilled to be able to confirm that the Open Day will return once again to help raise money for the Royal Berks Charity.

“The day is always super popular with hundreds if not thousands of Reading residents, and guests from elsewhere, enjoying a peek behind the scenes of what we do, as well as enjoying all the amazing activities and food on offer.

“We will have our bus rainbow in place again with the opportunity for people to sit in the drivers’ cabs – as well as the usual displays of heritage buses and bus memorabilia.

“We encourage everyone to put Sunday June 25 in their diaries and come on down between 11am and 4pm for a day of fun – there will be an event created on Facebook as a reminder.”

Robert added that the company were currently finishing their complete list of activities which will be shortly shared on their website www.reading-buses.co.uk

The company will again run a free shuttle bus between Reading town centre and the depot to help attendees get to and from the site.

Robert also praised the fact that the day is staffed by volunteers, adding: “We have dozens of people from the company, and selected friends of Reading Buses, who give up their time on the day to help set up, work the stalls and complete the cleardown.

“We really couldn’t raise as much money as we want for the charity without their help.”
