Reading Buses in partnership with West Berkshire Council will officially launch Contactless payments on their Kennections network today Thursday (June 1).
A jet red bus will be on Northbrook Street in Newbury town centre from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm so that people can find out more about Contactless payments which were successfully trialled in the local area on jet red 101 and 102 services earlier in the month.
In addition to talking about the benefits of Contactless payments, Reading Buses will also be discussing their Kennections app which was launched in April and now features West Berkshire Connect tickets, including the 10 trip FlexiConnect tickets.
“We are encouraging everyone to download the app so that they never have to wait at a bus stop again,” said Jake Osman, Reading Buses Marketing and Communications Manager.
“The app allows customers to track their bus and favourite their home stops so they can always be sure when their bus will arrive.
“We are hoping that people will come along to Northbrook Street to have a look at the jet red bus and pick up a timetable as well as learning more about Contactless payments,” he added.
The event is in partnership with West Berkshire Council to promote the Kennections local bus network which, apart from jet red, is a West Berkshire contract.
Mark Edwards, West Berkshire Council’s Head of Transport said: “I very much welcome the investment being made by Reading Buses to introduce contactless payment on the ‘Kennections’ network, complementing the new jet red and established jet black routes, and the progressive investments by the Council in updated customer facilities and information.
“This will undoubtedly help make the Kennections and Reading Buses services an even more attractive option for travel to work, school, leisure and shopping.”
