Transdev to return many routes in Yorkshire and Lancashire to pre-lockdown timetables, in line with Government’s roadmap to reopen the economy

North of England bus operator Transdev is to launch the biggest timetable ever on its Coastliner network linking Leeds and York with the Yorkshire Coast, as it seeks to attract customers back to the bus with the easing of travel restrictions this Spring.

The bus firm is boosting bus service frequencies in line with the Government’s roadmap to reopen the economy, while planning ahead for further growth in anticipation of an expected rise in demand for staycation trips to the Yorkshire Coast this summer.

As non-essential shops and services prepare to reopen and many people look forward to beginning their own return to normal, Transdev plans to increase services back to pre-pandemic levels from Sunday, 11 April 2021 as part one of its twin-phase plan to bring back buses better.

Then, from Sunday, 16 May 2021, phase two will see twice as many Coastliner buses running to and from Scarborough, with a bus every 30 minutes on Monday to Saturday between Leeds, York, Malton and Scarborough.

Transdev’s popular CastleLine service linking York and Malton with Castle Howard will also start its summer timetable from the same date, with extra direct buses between York and Castle Howard, including on Sundays. Meanwhile Coastliner buses will also continue to serve Flamingo Land, Pickering, the Moors and Whitby regularly, with more details to come closer to the time.

Transdev CEO Alex Hornby said: “We’re working hard now to get everything ready for an amazing staycation summer, headlined by our biggest timetable every for Coastliner so everyone can look forward to enjoying Yorkshire’s Most Amazing Day Out.

“We’ve always been proud to say that our buses are clean, safe and ready to go, and we know maintaining the highest standards is vital to making sure everyone who travels can do so confidently. Each of our buses receives an overnight deep clean, using virucidal fog proven to be highly effective, while our teams are ready at our bus stations to hop on board and clean touch points throughout the day.

“Our buses play a critical role in supporting the reopening of the North’s economy, and we can’t wait to welcome our customers back to our clean and safe buses as lockdown eases, shops reopen and many of us start to return to normal.”

Transdev’s team is producing printed timetables and updated information at bus stops ahead of the changes, while information on timetables, tickets and more is instantly available online at: https://www.transdevbus.co.uk and on the Transdev Go app.
