ALBUM welcome’s the commitment in the recent Government announcement on its £1.1bn funding

November 22, 2024

David Astill, Vice Chair of ALBUM comments on recent Government announcement on its £1.1bn funding to support bus services across the country.

David Astill, Vice Chair of ALBUM commented:

The new government has shown a welcome commitment to improving bus services. We are pleased to see the £1.1bn funding package for 2025/2026, which includes separate pots for the £3 single fare cap and the continuation of BSOG+ and BSIP+. While the fare cap has undoubtedly boosted passenger numbers, we believe that BSOG+ and BSIP+ offer better long-term value for taxpayers by providing stability to bus networks.

Buses are a vital tool for economic regeneration, and it’s encouraging to see them taking a higher profile position in government policy. The lobbying efforts of Britain’s bus operators have clearly paid off, and this £1.1bn settlement is a positive first step. We look forward to further investment in the future.
