ALBUM welcomes the 2024 results of the Your Bus Journey survey of passenger satisfaction from independent watchdog Transport Focus, which highlights that four of the top five bus operators in England and two of the top five in both Scotland and Wales, are proud ALBUM members.
The independent survey, based on feedback from over 48,000 bus journeys across Great Britain, ranks overall passenger satisfaction as:
England
1st Place, High Peak (99%)
2nd Place, Compass Travel (95%)
3rd Place, Ipswich Buses (92%)
5th Place, Nottingham City Transport (91%)
Scotland
2nd Place, McGills Bus Service (88%)
3rd Place, Lothian Buses (85%)
Wales
1st place, Newport Bus (89%)
5th place, Cardiff Bus (80%)
David Astill, Chair of ALBUM, said: “These results are a powerful endorsement of local operators and the benefits of local ownership. ALBUM members are deeply rooted in the communities they serve, and that’s reflected in the outstanding service they provide. This reinforces the case for greater recognition and inclusion of SME operators in franchising and procurement processes across the UK.”
ALBUM has consistently advocated for a diverse, inclusive bus market that values the contributions of small and medium-sized operators. These survey results clearly show that smaller, locally focused companies can – and do – deliver sector-leading performance.
As franchising expands and decisions are made about the future of bus services, ALBUM calls on transport authorities to support policies that protect competition, encourage innovation, and retain the best of local expertise.
