Hero Reading Buses Driver Marcos Keeps Customers Safe

September 4, 2019

The quick reaction of Reading Buses driver Marcos Irazabal is believed to have prevented an extremely serious crash when a brick smashed through his driver’s side window whilst he was driving one of their contracted National Express vehicles.

Marcos, 45, who has been a Reading Buses driver for four years, was also lucky the incident did not result in injury to himself.

Immediately on impact he pulled onto the hard shoulder of the M25 and his first concern was for passengers – not himself.

He then continued his journey to Woking Station with a broken side window and shattered glass around his seat. A replacement vehicle was arranged at Woking.

Said Caroline Anscombe, Reading Buses HR Director: “Marcos’ quick reaction and thinking helped to mitigate an already serious incident. He avoided further issues and ensured that all his passengers arrived safely.

“His excellent demeanour and driving skills are a credit to him and he definitely showed our company values of unrelenting customer care, doing the right thing and definitely staying safe and healthy. Well done, Marcos”

As a result of his handling of the situation, Marcos, who lives in Reading, has been awarded a Reading Buses ‘Star of the Month.’
