Open Day Will Be Out of This World

June 28, 2018

Reading Buses Open Day 2018It’s all set to be a scorcher for the forthcoming Reading Buses Open Day with their plans now well advanced. Reading Buses has also declared that the theme for this year’s event is ‘Out of this World.’

The 11th annual charity Open Day will be held at Reading Buses Great Knollys Street Depot this Sunday, July 1, starting at 11.00 am.

The Open Day is a chance for the town and company to come together for a fun day to celebrate all things bus! And this year the theme is ‘Out of this World” featuring Storm Troopers, themed ‘worlds,’ space themed cakes and more.

And the company want the little ones to have even more fun by dressing up for a fancy-dress competition. Open to children 11 and under, if they dress up in a suitably out of this world outfit they could win a great space prize.

Said Martijn Gilbert, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer: “The competition will be judged by me at my last ever Open Day as a member of Reading Buses staff at least.

“We are aiming to judge the competition at 12.30pm by the Autism Berkshire bus. All children who dress up will get a small prize too. Adults and older children are encouraged to dress up, but unfortunately will not be eligible to win the prize.”

This year’s chosen charity is Autism Berkshire who will be present on the day and the organisers are hoping to beat the £8,000 raised for their 2017 charity of the year Red Balloon Learner Centres.

There will also be all the usual fun at the family-friendly Open Day featuring the barbecue, bus wash rides and behind the scenes tours. Visitors can also get their name up in lights on the front of a bus.

And for those enjoying the sunshine on Sunday, there will also be a plentiful supply of cold drinks on offer and an ice cream van which, judging by the weather predictions, is sure to be one of the most popular attractions.

Martijn also wanted to remind visitors that there will not be any parking available at the depot.  “We have a free shuttle bus running along Friar Street and Station Road in the town centre that will bring people back to the depot – so please leave the car at home and we will see you here.”
