Fun Sports Themed Open Day for Reading Buses

June 19, 2017

Reading Open DayOrganisers are promising another bumper filled Reading Buses Open Day at their Great Knollys Street depot on Sunday July 2.

The action-packed day, with a fun sports theme, will be as good, if not better, than previous open days at the depot, says the organisers.

Reading’s famous sports buses, sporting games and a chance to meet Reading FC’s mascot Kingsley the lion – who very nearly guided the Royals to promotion – will be amongst the entertainment on offer from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm.

“It’s a family friendly fun day for the whole community with lots to see and do,” promised Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer Martijn Gilbert.

“There’s the chance for visitors to get their name up in lights on the front of a bus, face painting, vintage buses and open top rides around the town, barbecue, ice cream and home made cakes.

“There will even be a chance to have a sneak peak behind the scenes to see what happens in the engineering workshop – including an exclusive look underneath a bus – and visits to our state-of-the-art operational control room.

“In addition, there will be stalls selling a range of items, including memorabilia, and the chance to take a ride through the bus wash which is always one of the most popular attractions on offer during our annual open days.”

He added that the whole day is being held in aid of the Reading Buses charity of the year Red Balloon Learning Centre, supporting the education of children affected by bullying or other trauma.

Reading Buses will be running free shuttle buses from the town centre to the depot throughout the day.
