Reading Buses win 'Development of People' award Reading Buses beat off stiff competition to win the ‘Development of People’ award at the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Annual Awards for Excellence last night at the Lancaster Hotel, London .

Reading Buses were placed above CEVA Logistics who were working in partnership with Volkswagen UK , and O’Donovan Waste Disposal.

The award went to Reading Buses for its work to continue building upon an already award-winning training function which has taken the company further ‘through our people’ and placing ‘people power’ at the centre of its business over the past few years, supporting, enabling and empowering them to develop and deliver great service to its customers.

This has also included getting employees views to shape the development of the company through their first ever employee survey, including delivering substantial improvements in the follow on survey a year later, running an Improvement Champion programme to develop non-management employees in front line roles and a successful employee recognition and reward programme through its star of the month scheme. This has all led to improved recruitment, retention, engagement and customer service.

Commenting on the award, Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer Martijn Gilbert said: “We are absolutely delighted to see our hard work in this important area ‎recognised amongst the very best in the logistics and transport sector, excelling beyond much larger organisations and the reach of the UK bus profession.

“We are totally committed to the engagement and development of our people, without whom our company is nothing. This award is testament to the hard work of our team over the past 24 months in transforming how we develop our people and has laid the path for the future success of our company to continue delivering great services that meet the ever increasing transport demands of society.”
