Reading Buses drivers perform at Bus Driver of the Year

September 8, 2016

Reading Drivers for UK Driver of the YearTwo Reading Buses drivers gave it their all as they were put through their paces for the Bus Driver of the Year competition in Blackpool.

Driver Ed Love, 24, was placed 13th in the competition, improving on his 31st position last year when he was Reading Buses only entrant.

And his colleague Jamie Richardson, 25, came 93rd out of the 115 drivers who made it through to this year’s finals.

Ed, who was in the top third in last year’s national final, turned the tables on colleague Jamie who recently beat him in Reading Buses own Bus Driver of the Year competition.

Reading Buses Chief Executive Officer Martijn Gilbert was pleased for both drivers for making it through to the Blackpool final.  “I was there with some of the Reading Buses team to support our drivers,” he said.

“It was great to watch them in action. When you consider there are over 300,000 pcv licence holders in the UK , getting to this final is quite an achievement.

“Their entry as finalists in the national competition followed them winning the top slots in Readings Buses’ own Driver of the Year competition for which the company’s 425 drivers were eligible.

“A friendly rivalry saw them support each other and help try to come out on top in this year’s competition. We are extremely proud of both their performances and we can’t wait until next year when we hope that they –and who knows who else from our company – make it through to the final again.”
