Bus operators open doors to stricken workers

June 16, 2023

Two bus operators have been quick to respond to the sudden closure of a local firm – by offering job opportunities to affected staff.

Newbury & District and Thames Valley Buses have jointly offered to open their doors to delivery drivers and customer services staff at Tuffnells.

The operators have invited staff to apply for immediate employment in bus driver roles across the Thames Valley region.

Dave Fulford, Operations Manager at Newbury & District, said today: “We were saddened to hear about the sudden closure of this well respected firm and wanted to reach out to the affected employees at their local delivery centres in places like Andover, Basingstoke and Slough with an offer of employment at what is obviously a very worrying and uncertain time for them.

“Bus and coach driving is a very fulfilling role and recent research has shown bus and coach drivers are thanked five times more than any other British profession with an average of 37 thanks-yous a day.

“Our services are at the heart of the local community and so we feel it when local companies go out of business.

“Newbury & District, Thames Valley Buses and our parent company Reading Buses are all growing companies with exciting plans for the future and sites across the Thames Valley region. So we would welcome employees of Tuffnells considering joining our team.”
