BUS OPERATOR’S FRONTLINE HEROES ANNOUNCED

February 3, 2021

A bus operator’s frontline heroes have been announced.

Reading Buses received a total of 134 nominations from customers and employees for their GEM (Going the Extra Mile) Awards.

Gem awards have been specially introduced to recognise employees who have gone the extra mile during 2020.

Across the past week, 15 employees have won a GEM award demonstrating that even in a pandemic Reading Buses staff are still giving their very best to keep the town moving.

Among the winners were two employees who set up an employee foodbank to help colleagues struggling with financial hardship.

And from across the company there were awards for engineers keeping buses safe as well as drivers caring for lost children.

The special awards scheme was designed especially for what has been a tough year and recognises employees who have made a difference during a challenging 2020.

Said Chief Executive Officer Robert Williams: “This is Team Reading Buses at its very best.

“The awards have found the best in people with many employees going the extra mile during the pandemic.

“Our very own frontline heroes have shown that our town’s award-winning bus company is still doing its very best to get people where they need to be with a bit of extra sparkle.

“When the time is right, we can’t wait to welcome more customers back on board.”
